I've been finding it difficult to label the animation services that I provide as a contractor and ideally as a company and consultant. Motion graphics is a broad field which encompasses Graphic Design, Video Production, VFX and Animation. A Motion Designer can be referred to a filmmaker, animator, designer or artist. I hope to update this thread with some relevant or rather industry specific information. Any help categorizing this market would be apprecaited. Self Employed & Home Based Business Fri, 13 Feb 2015 19:53:27 +0000 chrisrbernal 1113441 at Remain Home Based or take the leap? Just looking for some feedback here. We run a small home-based business just outside of a town with about 100,000 people. We offer screen printing, graphic design services and other garment decoration services. In our city there are 9 other companies that offer similar or identical services. When we first opened our business we had a retail location but our marketing was very minimal. Our website was also not fully operational and not well suited for search engine placement. 2 years ago we decided to move our business to our home. While we have grown tremendously online and through other sales avenues, our local retail business has decreased tremendously. Anytime we get a call for local services people seem turned off by the fact that we are 15 minutes out of town even though we offer full delivery services. In addition, since we operate out of our home google local listings has dropped us and we now struggle tremendously to place in local search results. I am trying very hard to convince my partners to just consider moving our business into a local retail shop but they just don't see the benefit and possible growth. I need feedback on whether anyone has been in this situation, on how I can find the numbers to support my desires and any statistics on how home-based businesses compare to full retail businesses. I have done a fair amount of searching on these topics but everything that I have found is pretty generic and watered down. ANY feedback is welcome. I don't feel like we are even close to failing as a business but I do want us to continue to grow and better support the families that are connected to our business. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There are 28 million small businesses and 22 million are self-employed with no addtional payroll or employees. 2. Over 50% of all employees work for a small business. 3. 52% are home based businesses. 4. Approximately 80% report less than $50,000 a year in receipts. The information posted is based on lies and exaggeration and is quite frankly horrific One of the sites is 'PISSED CONSUMER' where she has posted death wishes and the other listings simply attack myself and daughter personally and via my business blogs. The listings have destroyed my business . Does anyone know how to handle this , correct the situation or to resolve it in any way. There are many issues at hand including the costs, family, time, dedication, the negative influence of others close to you, and the list can go on forever. No matter what you are doing in the home based business world the one thing that will make the difference is none other than you! You have to be prepared emotionally for all that is listed above and more. Having a website is an essential tool to getting the work out there, let's face it hoe often are you distracted during the day by something like Facebook, Twitter, or Google+? Very few of us can deny this happens. What your missing here is the perfect way to harness your distractions and turn them into a positive result for your business. In a website you can incorporate a blog auto feed this to your social networks and write about your passion (Your Business) and at the same time build an amazing web around your home business. You also need to treat your business like a business. Dedicate a time to start and a time to end, wake up and get dressed (Dress for success) you never know if today is the day you might meet that one connection that will break down that wall and be the driving force you need to leave everyone and everything that hindered you in the dust. A website should be one of the first things you develop for your business. You can always direct potential clients to a website and they can send referrals there as well. If you go off business cards eventually that trail will end. You can have someone out there talking about you but not have your business card then what? The trail ends cold. You will want to also do some research because a lot of times your business name is not always what you want for your domain name. You want something that your clients will be searching on the internet and come across your website. Your company name is something you should be proud of but needs to be used correctly, such as in the header to your website and on your other marketing materials. Keep this in mind. A good company will not be trying to up-sell you every step of the way they will be giving you tips on how to land on your feet and boost your business using the tools you may not even realize you already have. I'm working out a deal to purchase the business with the owner of a small assisted living facility (residential 6Beds) Part of the deal would be to lease the facility with an option to buy. Once we sign the agreement my plan is to buy the property within a year or two (investment property) when seeking a loan does this fall under a commercial loan. Which SBA backed loan program is available to purchase this type of facility. I will be working as the administrator for the facility. I can't seem to decide whether to quit my full time regular job because I'm afraid It will be hard to get approve for the future loan to purchase the property because of inconsistent job history. I'm willing to quit my job of 2.5 years because my passion is to help and make a difference in the life of other people particularly the elderly which is lacking in my current job.
