"This has been a great year for the region for exporting and it’s an honor to recognize the accomplishments of our small business communities,” said Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho. “Zeigler Bros. are an excellent example, having also won on the national level, of a small business that succeeds and remains competitive in a global market.”
SBA’s Eastern Pennsylvania small business awards, including “Small Business Exporter of the Year,” are awarded to a nominee in Pennsylvania’s eastern 40 counties, while regional winners are selected from the seven districts across the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. National award winners are selected from the regional winners from across the country.
Zeigler Bros., Inc., is now in its third generation of family-owned leadership with Dr. Thomas R. Zeigler, Timothy M. Zeigler and Matthew P. Zeigler. Founded in 1935, the company continues to develop new and innovative technologies for specialty feed, focusing on aquaculture, pet, zoo and laboratory animal feed for bio-medical research. The company manufactures more than 300 products and exports to over 40 countries around the world. Funding through SBA’s Small Business Innovation Research grant helped the company to study the nutritional requirements of newly hatched marine finfish while exploring creative manufacturing methods for live feeds.
Philadelphia’s NBC10 anchor and consumer reporter Tracy Davidson will present the awards with SBA’s Philadelphia District Director, David Dickson at the annual “SBA Day at the Ballpark” event on June 5. The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with a luncheon at “Chickie’s & Pete’s” restaurant at 1526 Packer Ave. followed by a 1:05 p.m. Phillies game at nearby Citizens Bank Park. The event is open to the media. This event is co-sponsored by Constant Contact and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
These events are local observances of the annual Presidentially-designated National Small Business Week, which will be held this year June 17-21. National Small Business Week recognizes the small business community’s contribution to the American economy.
