Frank M. Chapman/Native Sons, Ltd. of Plainville - Awarded SBA’s 2010 Subcontractor of the Year
Hartford, CT – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has awarded Native Sons Ltd, & President Frank M. Chapman, of Plainville, CT the 2010 Subcontractor of the Year according to an announcement made by Bernard Sweeney, Connecticut’s SBA District Director.
The SBA presents the Subcontractor of the Year Award annually to a small business that has provided the government and industry with outstanding goods and services as subcontractors. Nominations are evaluated on the following criteria (1) Overall Management, (2) Delivery Performance (3) Technical Capabilities, (4) Exceptional Results, among six other selection criteria for this award in which Native Sons exceeded all. “This company is a true testament of not only implementing high quality work and customer service but its loyalty and commitment in preserving the American Indian culture as part of their excellent business model”, said Connecticut SBA District Director Bernard Sweeney. Native Sons, Ltd., founded in 1997, is a Native American construction company that specializes in large-scale municipal, commercial and tribal construction projects as well as industrial, institutional and government construction projects throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The management of Native Sons has a strong commitment to providing work opportunities to other Native Americans and works closely with Tribal Employment Rights Organizations.
Native Sons was nominated by The Haskell Company of Jacksonville, Florida for its work as a team member on the US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, RD&A and T&E Consolidation Project. The Dahlgren project called for a subcontractor that had detailed and intimate knowledge of an unusually wide variety of materials and installations. In the construction industry it is not unusual to find SDBEs that are technically qualified but are unable to financially manage a project of this magnitude. As a result, Native Sons was able to be enrolled in Haskell’s “sub-guard” program which covered the
multimillion dollar scope of work without any need to provide standard construction performance and payment bonds. Larry Willis of the Haskell Company stated “it is unusual to find a subcontractor that can have such a positive impact, not just on the assigned scope of work, but on the work of others, on the project as a whole, on the owner and the end users. Native Sons in highly qualified, safe, well managed and financed, and shows an unusually high regard for the needs of both the Prime Contractor and the Owner.” It is for these reasons that Native Sons Ltd, Frank Chapman, President and Michael T. Oles, General Manager deserve to be recognized by the SBA as Region 1’s Small Business Subcontractor of the Year.
Native Sons, Ltd., will be honored along with eight other small business award winners, at an awards breakfast at The Villa Capri, Wallingford, CT on Thursday, June 3rd, 2010.
