Leominster Company Wins SBA’s 2012 Massachusetts Entrepreneurial Success Award the Year
BOSTON – Leominster-based Solidus Technical Solutions, Inc., owned by Darlene Tucker and David Kensy, has been named the 2012 Massachusetts U.S. Small Business Administration Entrepreneurial Success Business of the Year award winner.
The Entrepreneurial Success Award is presented annually to a small business that received SBA assistance when considered a small business according to SBA size standards, and has since grown into a large business based on the same standards. SBA uses the following criteria to judge the candidates for this award: staying power, growth in number of employees, increase in sales/and or unit volume, current and past financial reports, innovativeness of product or service, response to adversity, and evidence of contributions to community-oriented projects. Solidus was nominated for this award by Mark Drew, assistant vice president of Middlesex Savings Bank in Westborough.
Solidus Technologies, a majority woman and veteran owned engineering firm, was founded by owners Darlene Tucker and David Kensy in 2001. Solidus provides multi-disciplined software and systems engineering and advanced technology firm supporting the Department of Defense, Federal agencies, and R&D facilities to provide scientific and advanced technology services. The company employs 90 people in Massachusetts.
“Solidus has grown revenues and employment to the point where it is now considered a large business,” said Robert H. Nelson, SBA Massachusetts District Director. “We at the SBA are gratified because Ms. Tucker took advantage of several SBA programs along the way. Solidus obtained an SBA-backed loan, and sought counseling from SCORE and the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center, both SBA resource partners.”
Ms. Tucker will be honored at an SBA awards celebration along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2012 winners at an event at Fenway Park on June 6, 2012.
