WASHINGTON – The U.S. Small Business Administration is now accepting nominations for its 2016 National Small Business Week Awards, including Small Business Person of the Year. Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses.

“National Small Business Week is an opportunity to celebrate the impact these entrepreneurial spirits have on their communities and this nation’s economy,” said SBA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho who serves as one of several competition judges for her region. “Small businesses are our real economic engines, and I look forward to seeing a strong competitive field again this year.”

Last year’s SBA Eastern Pennsylvania District Small Business Person of the Year was Joseph Zidik, president and CEO of Custom Milling and Consulting, Inc., or CMC. Established in 2002 to provide chemical material processing equipment, as well as custom material processing and toll processing services, CMC helps its customers make the leaps from laboratory development to small production and on to full scale manufacturing. Since 2003, CMC has been utilizing SBA resource partner, Kutztown University SBDC, for assistance with international trade, marketing government contracting, finance and environmental issues. SBA resource partners, like Kutztown University SBDC, offer entrepreneurs free and low cost technical assistance and business advice.

“It’s wonderful to have the privilege to recognize the achievements of Pennsylvania small business leaders like Joe,” said Antonio (Tony) Leta, U.S. SBA Eastern Pennsylvania Director. “Small businesses like CMC are where the rubber meets the road, helping drive our nation’s economic recovery. SBA and our resource partners, like Kutztown University Small Business Development Center, are proud to play a role in helping them start and succeed.”

The dedicated website provides criteria and guidelines for submitting a nomination, as well as a nomination portal. For 2016, nomination criteria are streamlined and simplified with one form and questionnaire.
