SBA Louisiana’s Training Initiative is Coming to Lafayette
Free Courses Offered on 8(a) Certification, HUBZone Requirements, Woman-Owned Small Businesses, & the Affordable Care Act
LAFAYETTE – The U.S. Small Business Administration will be teaching a series of free workshops in Lafayette May 1 and 2. The classes are designed for small business owners interested in learning more about SBA’s certification programs for socially and/or economically disadvantaged firms, businesses located in a designated HUBZone, and Woman-Owned Small Businesses (WOSB). An information session on the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on small business owners will also be presented during each workshop.
The courses will be held at the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) at 211 East Devalcort Street in Lafayette. Workshop dates and times are as follows:
8(a) Certification Workshop: Wednesday, May 1, 10 am to noon.
This workshop will cover eligibility criteria for Section 8(a) program participation; an overview of the electronic application; review of required supporting documentation; review, explanation and guidance in completing the required SBA Forms; and a question and answer session.
HUBZone Boot Camp: Wednesday, May 1, 1:30 to 3 pm.
SBA’s Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Initiative is designed to introduce your small business to the program, help determine whether your business is eligible, and support the efforts of your business to participate. The HUBZone program promotes economic development in geographic regions that have been historically underutilized as business zones. Making the Most of Your WOSB Ownership in the Federal Government Marketplace: Thursday, May 2, 10 am to noon.
The WOSB course will cover: federal government contract set-asides for WOSB; the final WOSB ruling, impact and advantage; eligible NAICS codes; the WOSB certification process; identifying contract opportunities; and completing required registrations.
