Starting a Business

September 17, 2014 | 6:00 pm EDT - 8:00 pm EDT

Location Name:
McKendree University

10168 Linn Station Rd, Room 101, Louisville, KY,40223

One of the hottest trends in food service is the food truck; and Louisville is no exception. In fact, in the recently published Southern Food Truck Cookbook by Heather Donahoe, recipes from six Louisville Food Trucks were included. But, while it may look easy, the food-truck industry takes a lot of hard work; and much of it is before you serve your first customer. The licensing of a food truck may not be the most exciting aspect of your entrepreneurial pursuit, but it is one of the most important. In fact, it is the overall commitment to more stringent health codes and sanitary regulations that have paved the way for food vehicles to generate mass interest. It is this aspect that will be the focus of this workshop, with professionals from the City of Louisville to help you better understand the various codes, regulations & permits to help you start your food-service venture. Topics Include •Permits & Licenses •Equipment Requirements •Location criteria & limitations •Inspections & Placards At this event, Jason Ferry from the Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness & T. Watkins from the Metro Department of Codes & Regulations will review requirements and answer questions in obtaining proper permits and pass inspections to operate in Louisville Metro. Leah Stewart, with the Louisville Food Truck Association and owner of Louisville Dessert Truck, will also share her real experience in the business. After completing the workshop you will have the opportunity to schedule a free one-on-one counseling session with an SBDC Consultant or SCORE Counselor.
