PORTLAND, Ore.  – The Portland District Office presented this year’s Small Business Week awards during a luncheon at the Portland Art Museum, May 22, 2014. Nine small businesses, three champions of small business and 13 lending institutions were honored.

Regional Administrator Calvin Goings, Regional Advocate Jennifer Clark and District Director Camron Doss spoke about the impact of small business on the economy and the community at large.

PORTLAND, Ore.  – The Portland District Office and AARP are again teaming up to host National Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Month, targeting entrepreneurs over the age of 50. SBA and AARP are committed to providing Americans over the age of 50 with the real-world, actionable information they need to start and grow small businesses.

Dr. Matt Hicks had wanted to be a dentist for as long as he can remember. He thinks it may have had something to do with what his Mom told him at a young age; “take care of your teeth or they will fall out of your head.”

The holiday tradition of building and decorating gingerbread houses inspired crafty Mom, Cheryl Albers, to try her hand at making houses from scratch and throwing decorating parties. Immediately, party and gingerbread house requests started coming in from friends and friends of friends. Cheryl had uncovered a demand, where people not only wanted to continue the holiday tradition, but also wanted fresh, homemade gingerbread that wasn’t just edible, but tastes great. “I truly sell fun,” said Cheryl.  “Young, old, who doesn’t love decorating a gingerbread house?”

PORTLAND, Ore. – Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to celebrating and supporting small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, is Nov. 30, 2012.

“Most Americans know Black Friday and Cyber Monday as big days for holiday shopping,” said District Director Camron Doss. “But between the two is Small Business Saturday, a day that is dedicated to supporting small businesses during the holiday season.”
