MINNEAPOLIS – National Facility Solutions, LLC (NFS) has been named the Veteran-Owned Business of the Year in Minnesota by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Located in Hastings, Minn., NFS is an innovative energy services and supply contractor. They work to ensure federal facilities are built to the highest standards of quality and energy performance.

Scott Sinclair, managing principal of NFS, is a veteran Air Force Civil Engineer Officer who received his commission after graduating from Iowa State University in 2001. He served on active duty, deployed twice to the Middle East, and then transitioned to the Air Force Reserve until separating in 2012. While deployed to Iraq, he and his unit worked to design and construct over $500M worth of facilities for the Iraqi Security Forces. Since leaving the Air Force, Sinclair has leveraged his college degrees in architecture, and 15 years of experience in commercial and industrial construction management, to create NFS.

NFS was formed in 2009 after Sinclair saw numerous opportunities to build a value based business capable of supporting the enormous facility and supply support required to maintain federal agency facility assets. He considers himself fortunate to have met his current business partner, Scott Wolf, who was instrumental in helping establish a long term vision for federal facility support services. Since they joined forces, the company has evaluated over 20 million square feet of U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs hospital facilities, and helped to reduce their energy use and carbon footprint.  This has saved the VA and taxpayers millions of dollars in operating and energy costs.

“Veterans give so much to our country both during their active duty times and, in the case of veteran small business owners like Scott Sinclair, in their civilian endeavors as well,” stated Nancy Libersky, SBA’s Minnesota district director. “The award recognizing veteran’s achievement in the business world is just one small way we make sure they know our country’s gratitude for their sacrifices.”

Sinclair credits the SBA’s educational and networking programs, as well as the Procurement Technical Assistance Center, with helping him get ahead in business. He said that the annual Small and Disadvantaged Business Opportunity Council (SADBOC) Procurement Fair was particularly useful to his business.

“The educational and legal resources available through the PTAC, and the opportunities to network through the SADBOC fair, were key enablers to getting NFS off the ground,” explained Sinclair. “

NFS is committed to both creating opportunities for veterans, and ensuring veteran-owned businesses receive opportunities to succeed in the federal sector. Sinclair has volunteered his time as a panel member during the SADBOC Procurement Fair, and has personally advised numerous veterans on the best practices for starting and growing a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business enterprise.

NFS also creates employment opportunities for veterans, internally and through the use of other veteran-owned businesses.

This year’s SADBOC Procurement Fair is on April 27 in Brooklyn Center, Minn. The free event features continuous trade show with 65+ government and corporate exhibitors looking for small business products and services, 21 government contracting related workshops and scheduled one-on-one matchmaking appointments. Small businesses can register for this year’s SADBOC Procurement fair at

The SBA, along with the SCORE Association and the Small Business Development Center, will honor Scott Sinclair and National Facility Solutions, LLC at the Minnesota Small Business Week Awards Luncheon on May 4, 2017, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
