CINCINNATI – The U.S. Small Business Administration is celebrating military service members, both past and present, during National Veterans Small Business Week, October 30 through November 3. The goal of this initiative is to bring awareness to veteran business ownership, veteran entrepreneurship resources and programs.

SBA’s Columbus District is offering a Boots to Business: Reboot entrepreneurship class on Nov. 2, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at HCDC, located at 1776 Mentor Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45212. This entrepreneurial training opportunity is open to veterans, military members and military spouses. To register, visit https://sbavets.force.com/.

“Veterans make great entrepreneurs. In fact, nearly one in ten businesses in the U.S. is veteran-owned,” SBA Columbus District Director Rick Garcia said. “They are able to apply the skills they learned in the military to the small business environment. This program prepares them for success by offering them resources to start-up capital, technical assistance and contracting opportunities.”

The Boots to Business: Reboot is a two-step training program that provides participants an overview of business ownership, an outline and knowledge on the components of a business plan and an introduction to available public and private sector resources. The first step is the in-person course that is being offered. Once this course is completed, participants are eligible for online entrepreneurship courses offered through Syracuse University and Mississippi State University.

There are approximately 2.4 million veteran-owned small businesses in the U.S. These small businesses are a pillar of the U.S. economy, generating approximately $1.1 trillion of the nation’s total sales and receipts per year. SBA and its partners are working to continually provide training and resources to these entrepreneurs. For more information on National Veteran Small Business Week events, visit www.sba.gov/myvetbiz. We welcome veterans to join us in sharing moments that matter in veteran entrepreneurship – whether it’s your own success story or showing your admiration for a veteran small business owner – during National Veterans Small Business Week using #MyVetBiz on social media.
