ALBUQUERQUE – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) New Mexico District Office announces the 20 small businesses, champions and lenders named 2018 SBA New Mexico Small Business Week Award Winners.  SBA recognizes these small business honorees for their extraordinary contributions to strengthening our state’s economy and creating jobs.  All 20 winners will be recognized at a breakfast awards ceremony at Sandia Golf Club in Albuquerque, NM on May 2, 2018 at 7:30am, hosted by the SBA, the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce and the New Mexico Small Business Development Center Network. Ceremony information and registration is available at https://nmsmallbusinessawards.eventbrite.com

Additionally, two of the state’s winners will represent New Mexico in Washington D.C. at the National SBA Small Business Week Awards Ceremony, April 29-30.  At the national ceremony, SBA Administrator Linda McMahon will recognize Jasper Riddle, President of Noisy Water Winery and Cellars as the 2018 New Mexico Small Business Person of the Year.  She will also present the 2018 National Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year award to Christopher Weil, President of Weil Construction, Inc.

“Small business is vital to New Mexico’s economy.  Our 152,500 small businesses employ over 95% of the state’s private workforce,” said SBA New Mexico District Director John M. Garcia.  “During Small Business Week, we celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit so important to our state and thank our small business community for their dedication and commitment to growing our economy.  The SBA invites you to join us for our annual awards ceremony and also invites communities across the state to participate by recognizing small businesses during Small Business Week.”

Each year since 1963, the President has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week.  National Small Business Week is set as the first week in May, and this year the dates are April 30-May 5, with local celebrations and events hosted by SBA throughout the country to honor outstanding small business owners, champions and lenders.
