Small businesses that operate and employ people in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) can gain preferential access to federal contracting opportunities through a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) certification program. Before a business can participate in the HUBZone program, they must be certified by the SBA.

A free workshop is being offered from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14th at Farm Credit Services, 1650 9th Ave SE, in Rugby, ND. Participants will learn how to become a federal government contractor and will receive a packet with everything they need to apply for HUBZone certification, including detailed instructions, checklists, forms and a sample application.

In North Dakota, small businesses in the counties of Benson, Bottineau, Burke, Eddy, Emmons, Golden Valley, Grant, Kidder, McIntosh, McLean, Nelson, Oliver, Pembina, Pierce, Rolette, Sheridan, Sioux, Towner, Walsh and Wells, as well as all Indian Reservations, are eligible to apply for HUBZone certification.

Advance registration is required. To register or for more information, contact Sherri Komrosky at 701-239-5658 or sherri.komrosky@sba.gov.

Additional HUBZone workshops are planned for Ft. Yates on June 20; Washburn on July 18, and New Town, date to be determined.
