Boise IT Business Owner Named 2019 SBA Idaho Small Business Person of the Year

Owner Nate Bondelid of Tek-Hut, Inc. Takes Top Honors,
Finalist for 2019 SBA National Small Business Person of the Year-

BOISE, Idaho – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 2019 Idaho Small Business Person of the Year is Nate Bondelid, president of Tek-Hut Inc. in Boise, Idaho

Founded in 2001, Tek-Hut, Inc.  specializes in comprehensive IT solutions for the education industry, and local and state governments. Currently, Tek-Hut is the largest provider of internet service for education in Idaho. The firm works with 72 school districts in Idaho and more than 200 districts nationwide.

“Tek-Hut’s impressive growth, community involvement and innovative employee-centric leadership practices are a testament to Nate Bondelid’s entrepreneurial spirit,” SBA Boise District Director Gary Eisenbraun said. “Nate’s success at Tek-Hut has led the way for other local small businesses to thrive. We are proud to have Nate and Tek-Hut part of our Idaho small business community.”

The SBA Small Business Person of the Year award – part of National Small Business Week May 5-11, 2019 – recognizes small business owners who demonstrate staying power and substantiated history as an established business with at least three years of business operation. Winners must also show growth in net worth and business expansion, increase in jobs and sales, innovativeness of products or services, response to adversity and contributions to community-oriented projects.

In 2004, early in the life of Tek-Hut  the firm got a small SBA loan. During the past few years, Tek-Hut has experienced substantial growth.  Since then the firm has expanded by adding a 5,000 square foot building in Twin Falls, Idaho and a second 10,000 square foot location in Boise last year. This expansion led to a revenue increase of 350 percent and staff doubled.

“I am honored to be presented with this award,” Bondelid said. “This reward is a reflection of my employee’s dedication to our company and our customer’s loyalty to Tek-Hut.

Thank you very much!”

Tek-Hut is active in the community and has contributed to and donated to local youth programs. It also has an internship program that brings talent from many of the school districts they serve.

"National Small Business Week is a time to recognize the impact of small businesses, which make up 99 percent of all businesses in the Pacific Northwest and create two out of every three net new jobs,” SBA Regional Administrator Jeremy Field said. “Small business owners represent our country’s best. They are innovators, job creators and community leaders. Shining a spotlight on their inspirational stories and journeys is an honor.”

Small Business Person of the Year winners from 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam will converge in Washington, D.C. May 5-6 when one of them will be selected as the National Small Business Person of the Year.

Each year since 1963, the President has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week. SBA recognizes outstanding small business owners for their personal successes and contributions to our nation.
