SEATTLE – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Seattle District Office and the North Olympic Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development Council (NODC) formalized a two-year strategic alliance and celebrated with a signing ceremony June 27.

The Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) will allow both organizations to cross promote and collaborate on business training and services which will better connect and empower the small business ecosystem on the Olympic Peninsula.

“When rural small businesses thrive, their communities prosper. By combining resources with local economic organizations like the NODC, we empower entrepreneurs across the Peninsula to succeed at every stage of the business lifecycle,” Hurd said. “When we work together to elevate rural communities, we all win.”

SBA and NODC leadership arranged a signing ceremony at the public monthly NODC meeting at the John Wayne Marina in Sequim last Thursday.

SBA Seattle District Deputy Director Mark Costello and NODC Executive Director Karen Affeld signed the SAM surrounded by NODC members and SBA staff.

"The North Olympic Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development Council (NODC) sees entrepreneurship and small business development as key to a thriving regional economy,” said Affeld. “This partnership between the SBA and the NODC will help to ensure that local businesses are able to take advantage of everything the SBA has to offer to support their businesses."

The SBA and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) hosted Rural Strong small business training and networking events in Sequim in March 2019 as part of the Rural Strong Initiative. The SBA is following up by strengthening ties with local economic support organizations to unify and promote small business support efforts within the Olympic Peninsula region.
