Althea A. Harris began her federal career in 1993 at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, DC under the late Secretary Ronald H. Brown where she traveled worldwide in support of small and medium-sized exporters. She also worked at the U.S. General Services Administration helping small business owners compete for federal contracts. In 1998, Harris accepted a job with Miami’s SBA South Florida District in 1998. She has held several positions and now serves as the Assistant District Director for Marketing & Outreach for Area 1. Harris is also the Faith- & Community-Based Initiative Coordinator, the Women’s Business Ownership Representative, and, the SBA’s Women’s Business Center Project Officer.
She is a graduate of Howard University and the University of Miami School of Law. She is active in her community serving as the Vice Chairman of a non-profit board dedicated to the economic revitalization of Miami’s historic black community of Coconut Grove; a member of the Florida Bar’s Grievance Committee; and Girl Scout leader.
