Brian McDonald, District Director

Brian McDonald is the District Director for the SBA’s Minnesota District Office. Under his leadership, McDonald’s team facilitates SBA-backed loans, advocates and trains small businesses for federal government contracting opportunities and works to improve entrepreneurial development and to strengthen business growth in all 87 Minnesota counties.

Previously McDonald worked at SBA’s Office of Entrepreneurial Development (OED) as a Program Manager focused on economic development efforts. In 2016, he completed a professional development rotation, through the President's Management Council, as a Policy Analyst at Health and Human Services (HHS) in HRSA’s Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) working on programs and legislative requests aimed at supporting doctors and nurses in underserved areas. Prior to joining SBA, he worked in various team-lead positions within the U.S. Department of Treasury, CDFI Fund, responsible for grant funding, new markets tax credits, and training to financial institutions committed to serving low-and-moderate-income communities. McDonald also has worked as a credit analyst for a regional bank in Upstate New York (in the “Finger Lakes”), and as a Micro Finance Loan Officer for the non-profit, DreamSpring (formerly ACCION), in Albuquerque, New Mexico as an Americorps*VISTA volunteer.

Originally from Rochester, New York, McDonald went to Syracuse University for undergrad and Georgetown University for his master’s degree, and currently resides in Minneapolis with his wife and two children.
