Jon “Malcolm” Richards became the District Director of the Kansas City District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) on September 21, 2015. In this position, Richards oversees the SBA’s guarantee loan program, small business technical and resource partner assistance and government contracting assistance for KCDO’s 89 county territory, which includes 28 counties in eastern Kansas and 61 counties in western Missouri. He manages employees in the Kansas City District Office and its Springfield, Missouri Branch Office.
Before moving to Kansas City, Richards worked for the SBA as the Acting Deputy District Director of the New York City District Office; and also as its Supervisory Lender Relations Specialist, directing lender finance assistance and training programs; and its Supervisory Economic Development Specialist, overseeing the marketing of SBA programs throughout the that district’s 14-county territory. Prior to these assignments, Richards served as an SBA branch office manager in Rochester, NY for the Buffalo, SBA District Office He also worked for three of the largest commercial banks in the nation in positions of leadership and management overseeing small business and commercial lending, investments and strategic planning. Richards also owned and managed a small business for several years.
Richards holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and has a 16 year-old daughter.
