SBA Lenders Serving North Carolina Small Businesses

This page contains lists of SBA 7(a) Lenders, 504 Certified Development Companies and SBA Microlenders.  For more information about  programs or to start the application process, please contact the lenders directly.

SBA's 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program serves as SBA’s primary business loan program to help qualified small businesses obtain financing when it is not available elsewhere. Loan proceeds can be used for most business purposes including working capital, equipment, furniture, land and building. Loan maturities are up to 10 years for working capital and up to 25 years for real estate. SBA’s 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program has a maximum loan amount of $5 million, with a maximum exposure of $3.75 million. Thus, if a business receives an SBA guaranteed loan for $2 million, the maximum SBA guaranty to the lender will be $1.5 million or 75%.

SBA 504 Certified Development Company Program

The 504 Program provides small businesses long-term, fixed-rate financing for fixed assets: land, building, and equipment.  The 504 finance package consists of two loans: one from a bank and the other from an SBA licensed Certified Development Company.   A CDC is a nonprofit corporation set up to contribute to the economic development of its community or region. CDCs work with the SBA and private-sector lenders to provide financing to small businesses. Each CDC is certified statewide, but it may cover a specific area.

Maximum loan size is $5 million ($5.5 million for manufacturing).

SBA Microlenders Serving North Carolina Small Businesses

The Microloan program provides small loans ranging from under $500 to $50,000. Under this program, the SBA makes funds available to nonprofit intermediaries that, in turn, make the small loans directly to entrepreneurs, including veterans. Proceeds can be used for typical business purposes such as working capital, or the purchase of furniture, fixtures, machinery, supplies, equipment, and inventory. Microloans may not be used for the purchase of real estate. Interest rates are negotiated between the borrower and the intermediary. The maximum term for a microloan is 7 years. SBA Intermediary Lending Pilot in North Carolina - Carolina Small Business Development Fund and NCEED

The Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 established a three year pilot program to provide direct loans to eligible non-profit intermediaries for the purpose of making small business loans of up to $200,000. These experienced intermediaries assist small business concerns in areas suffering from a lack of credit due to poor economic conditions or changes in the financial market. SBA’s Intermediary Lending Pilot (ILP) Program aims to help business owners start and grow successful enterprises.

The North Carolina Intermediary, Carolina Small Business Development Center, partners with Community Development Credit Unions (CDCUs) and community-based organizations to provide small business loans through the ILP program. For more information contact:
