STRAIGHT TALK Opens Doors for Aging Well Care Management, LLC

Standing at a Crossroads; Entrepreneur Makes Choice to Start Business


For over 25 years, Aging Well Care Management, LLC, owner and certified care manager, Michelle Spencer has worked for a skilled nursing facilities as a unit social worker and discharge planner.  Eventually, becoming the director of social work.  Though, in December of 2018, Michelle found herself unemployed due to staffing layoffs.

“I found myself at a standing at a crossroads between finding another job within my industry which was very limited or starting my own business, said Michelle Spencer. “Throughout my experiences working in various areas of senior care, what stuck in my mind most was the lack of personalized and independent care management services available to seniors and their families.  Services that would guide them to sustainable solutions and choices to help ease the challenges of aging.”

And so, when it came to starting her small business, Michelle had to seek help.  She found it at the 23rd annual Straight Talk conference, where the SCORE mentors and resources she met and the seminars she attended, helped her successfully launch Aging Well Care Management, LLC.

Straight Talk, a half-day conference inspiring entrepreneurship, offers future and current entrepreneurs one-on-one business counseling, networking opportunities, education, training and the opportunity to meet with business resources like SCORE Buffalo Niagara, Small Business Development Center at Buffalo State College, area lenders, Erie County Industrial Development Agency and more.

The numbers show!  Since attending Straight Talk, Michelle has completed over 60 hours of training and mentoring and met with (3) different SCORE mentors following her attendance at Straight Talk.

A lot of hard work has paid off for Michelle and her care management business which launched in March 2019.  Michelle spends most days visiting clients, preparing for family meetings, coordinating clients care and making herself available in the event of crisis situations.

Aging Well Care Management, LLC  offers premium care management services that help seniors navigate the complex healthcare system, devise plans for care, investigate senior living options, assist in short and long term solutions to care concerns, find cost-effective services relating to home-care services , safety and more.  Additional services include premium concierge companion services provided personally be Michelle.  In her many years of experience, Michelle has worked through with clients suffering from cognitive impairments, mental health issues, chronic illnesses and many other medical conditions.

Straight Talk 2020 is the 24th annual presentation of this program which over the years has attracted thousands of participants.  The upcoming half-day seminar will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020.  Available seminars are:  “Business Basics”, “Show Me the Money,” “Make Yourself Credit Worthy”, “Maximize Opportunities through Federal, State, and Local Certifications”,” Navigating Your Business through Permits and Taxes”, “Social Media Marketing”, “We Did It!  You Can Too!”, “Home-Based Business Issues”, and “Effectively Building Business Relationships for Women.”

Straight Talk is held at the Buffalo Convention Center and the cost is $25 at the door but if you pre-register the cost is only $20.  Students with a valid ID pay $10.  Veterans with proof of veteran status are free.  The fee includes a continental breakfast, parking and the opportunity to attend Straight Talk Series - free.
