SBA’s Eastern Penn. 2013 Minority Small Business Of The Year Small Business Week Award Winner Leverages SBA Programs For Success
Billy O. Cromedy, president of Advantage Contracting, Inc., with SBA District Director David Dickson, Jay Comyn, Advantage Contracting Senior Estimator, wife Jaclyn Cromedy, SBA Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho, and Tania Fleming, Vice President of Milestone Bank, recently successfully directed the company to become an 8(a) certified small business.
Advantage Contracting, Inc. of Philadelphia, Pa., the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania Minority Small Business of the Year exemplifies how SBA programs can help small business start, grow and succeed.
Billy O. Cromedy, president of Advantage Contracting, Inc., which employs 20 people, recently successfully directed the company to become an 8(a) certified small business. SBA’s nine-year 8(a) Business Development Program for socially and economically disadvantaged firms helps develop and grow businesses through one-to-one counseling, training workshops and management and technical guidance. The program also provides access to government contracting opportunities, allowing businesses to become solid competitors in the federal marketplace.
“Minority-owned businesses like Billy’s are some of the fastest growing segments of small businesses, and the SBA is able to play an instrumental role in helping them start and succeed,” said Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho.
Cromedy’s company is a fully insured and bonded HVAC/sheet metal contractor that specializes in the fabrication and installation of sheet metal ductwork primarily used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning in various commercial and industrial applications and provides HVAC equipment for both large and small project needs.
“I’m very humbled and I’m thankful that someone acknowledges what I’ve done and continue to do. We put in long hours in construction and to get a little recognition is good,” said Cromedy. “The people who work for you have to believe in your vision and what you’re doing. In the field and in the office, they all understand that I’m working towards something that is bigger than me or them.”
“I am proud to have nominated Billy Cromedy and Advantage Contracting for this award, and prouder still that we have been able to partner with Billy to help him realize his goals for the business,” said Tania Fleming, Vice President of Milestone Bank.
SBA’s Eastern Pennsylvania Minority Small Business of the Year award winner is selected annually from among nominees located across Pennsylvania’s eastern 40 counties and recognized at the annual “SBA Day at the Ballpark” event. These events are local observances of the annual Presidentially-designated National Small Business Week, which recognizes the small business community’s contribution to the American economy.
"It’s an honor to recognize the accomplishments of our small business communities,” said David Dickson, U.S. SBA Philadelphia District Director. “Billy Cromedy and his company provide a wonderful example of how to leverage SBA programs into business success."
