Services Available

Over the years, the SBA has developed many small business loan and assistance programs, special outreach efforts and initiatives to aid and inform small businesses. The following describes the services and information available through this office:

  • The SBA works with lenders to provide loans to small businesses. The agency doesn’t lend money directly to small business owners. Instead, it sets guidelines for loans made by its partnering lenders, community development organizations and micro-lending institutions. The SBA reduces risk for lenders and makes it easier for them to access capital. That makes it easier for small businesses to get loans.
     
  • Lender Match is a free online tool that connects small businesses with SBA-approved CDFIs and small lenders.
     
  • Special loan programs are available for businesses involved in international trade.
     
  • SBA’s Office of Veterans Business Development’s mission is to maximize the availability of administration small business programs for veterans and their dependents or survivors.
     
  • Government Contracting
     
  • Free counseling, advice and information on starting, better operating or expanding a small business through (SCORE) Counselors to America’s Small Business.
     
  • South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) provides training and business assistance to current and aspiring entrepreneurs from startup to expansion.
     
  • It is the mission of the South Dakota Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to be an advisor for South Dakota businesses to start or grow by assisting with business planning, operational improvement, and product or market development.  The SBDC also hosts –
     
    • The South Dakota Enterprise Institute (SDEI) is a private, non-profit corporation that provides customized business development and commercialization services to entrepreneurs, inventors, and start-up companies in South Dakota.
    • The International Trade Center (ITC) provides management assistance to small businesses considering exporting, new to exporting or those with exporting finance packing needs.
    • Manufacturing & Technology Solutions (MTS) is a SD based resource for South Dakota’s manufacturers looking to improve profitability through continuous improvement and innovation.
    • The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) provides technical expertise to South Dakota businesses interested in bidding on and receiving federal, state and local government contracts.
    • The Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) help qualified small businesses propose innovative ideas that meet research and development needs of the federal government with the potential for commercialization
