Care & Comfort

Susan D. Giguere, CEO and owner of Care & Comfort, a Maine company providing home health and mental health services.

Company Name:
Care & Comfort
Waterville, ME

Susan Giguere founded Care & Comfort in 1991 in a rented two-room office space with a folding table, a home computer, and 2 employees. Today, through help from the SBA, the company employs more than 425 people, has 5 office locations across the state, and serves over 1500 families in 13 Maine counties annually.

During the mid 1990’s Susan knew that in order to grow her business she needed additional working capital and guidance, and she quickly discovered that it was more difficult for entrepreneurs to find traditional lenders. The company received its first SBA-guaranteed loan in November 1996 for $100,000. At that time she had 12 employees and created 2 new jobs. In 2000, a second loan was granted in the amount of $331,792. By this time the company had 150 employees.

Care & Comfort provides assistance to clients of all ages in three distinct areas: Home Health Services, Mental Health Services and the newly formed Home Modifications. Currently 890 Home Health and 748 Mental Health clients are being served. The first year for the Home Modifications division generated over $300,000.
