WASHINGTON – Maria Contreras-Sweet, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will travel to Houston to underscore President Obama’s State of the Union address. She will engage communities and drive the conversation on recent developments in the U.S. economy regarding small business and entrepreneurship.
Contreras-Sweet will showcase the importance of leveraging technology and entrepreneurship to lift communities and create jobs in a 21st century economy by visiting Houston Technology Center (HTC), the largest technology business incubator and accelerator in Texas. Then, she will stop by to visit The Breakfast Klub, which has utilized SBA services to start and grow their business.
In the afternoon, Contreras-Sweet will have a meet and greet with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. Afterwards, she will host a town hall at Houston Community College to discuss administration and SBA efforts to propel entrepreneurship through the White House My Brother’s Keeper Initiative as well as smart SBA tools to boost local small business investment. She will then visit the Port of Houston, which generates 2.7 million jobs nationally and has awarded more than $400 million to local small business since 2002.
