Palmdale Water District: Pure Water Antelope Valley Advanced Water Purification Facility
Description
The Pure Water Antelope Valley (Pure Water AV) project is an Indirect Potable Reuse (IPR) initiative led by the Palmdale Water District (PWD) in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (LACSD). The project is designed to diversify the region's water supply, increase drought resiliency, and address the historical overdraft of the Antelope Valley Groundwater Basin caused by legacy agricultural use.
Core Project Components and Process: Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF): The centerpiece of the project is a new AWPF located on a 20-acre greenfield site in Palmdale. It will treat tertiary effluent piped in from LACSD’s Palmdale Water Reclamation Plant (PWRP).
The facility will purify the water to meet all state and federal drinking water standards using a multi-barrier process consisting of low-pressure membrane filtration (MF), reverse osmosis (RO), ultraviolet light with advanced oxidation (UV/AOP), and post-treatment stabilization. The Initial Phase is designed for a feed flow of 4.75 million gallons per day (MGD), which will produce approximately 4.1 MGD of purified water. The facility footprint and design will accommodate a potential ultimate buildout of up to 10 MGD. The purified water will be conveyed via a new product water pipeline to a series of three injection wells (supported by six monitoring wells) to recharge the local groundwater aquifer.
