MONDAY: Obama Cabinet Member in Lowell & Boston to Highlight Federal Programs for Small Business

WASHINGTON – Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet, the head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and member of President Obama’s Cabinet, will be in Massachusetts on Monday, April 11, to highlight federal programs that boost small businesses.

Administrator Contreras-Sweet will deliver remarks at the 3rd Annual Massachusetts Business Matchmaker event, hosted by Senator Elizabeth Warren. The event will feature workshops from SBA’s ChallengeHER training program, a program that assists women-owned small businesses with the federal set aside program. Federal law requires the federal government to spend at least five percent of contracting dollars to go to women-owned small businesses. The ChallengeHER workshops along with other workshops at the matchmaker event will help small businesses be successful in government contracting and with access to capital.  

The Administrator will also take a walking tour of the redevelopment at the Bolling Building, which is revitalizing the Dudley Square area to create a small business community there. Afterwards, she will meet with entrepreneurs from the region and across Massachusetts at a roundtable hosted by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City to share how SBA is improving access to capital for underserved communities.
