ONLINE WORKSHOP
The Valley of Despair, also known as the Emotional Cycle of Change, is commonly referenced in project and change management. However, it is also highly relevant for new business owners and those embarking on the journey of starting a new business.
This session will give you some tips to help get out of the daunting valley that new and starting business owners fall into, and help with some ways to motivate and re-energize you so you can forge ahead with your entrepreneurial plans.
This phase, characterized by lagging enthusiasm and increasing doubt, is often the result of the initial excitement of starting a business wearing off (stages one and two of the cycle: Uninformed Optimism and Informed Pessimism) and the realization of the amount of work and what can seem like an overwhelming number of challenges ahead. It’s a crucial time where strategic action and having a shift in your mindset can mean the difference between success and failure.
Presenter Heather Turner is a Granite Region Certified SCORE mentor. She spent twenty years cooking professionally and in 2003 started her own business (with the assistance of a SCORE mentor). She currently teaches social media and marketing for small businesses and mentors and co-mentors in the chapter for marketing and social media for startup businesses and for existing businesses who need some help and guidance in the digital age. She also specializes in working with the hospitality industry for operations, both starting a food business as well as in business.
