The SBA’s New Spanish National Resource Guide Shares Grecia Diaz’s Story

Her entrepreneurial journey is so compelling that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) decided to share it with Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs around the country.

Grecia Diaz, owner of SnackEVER, is featured in the SBA’s new Spanish National Resource Guide. It details her story of migrating from her native Venezuela to Pittsburgh. Amazed at American supermarkets when she wanted and couldn’t find wholesome and vegan snack alternatives, she  started  an online, healthy bite-sized business in her basement, ringing up sales and success with help from the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

“On a scale of one to 10, this is a 100,” Diaz said. “We’re so excited for this opportunity to share how we created SnackEVER.”

The SBA’s Small Business Resource Guide is chock-full of information for entrepreneurs and established small business owners. Motivational profiles, like Grecia’s, coupled with compelling graphics and plain language enable readers to quickly find information on free, local consulting services, funding programs, disaster assistance and government contracting opportunities.

“This  downloadable guide not only is on the SBA’s main website, but on district office sites across the country,” explained SBA Western Pennsylvania. District Director Dr. Kelly Hunt. “It’s such an honor to be showcased in the SBA’s guide because each day, startup business owners and our national network of SBDCs, Women’s Business Centers and SCORE Chapters are using and sharing this publication and Grecia’s entrepreneurial success with their clients.”

The selection coincides with Diaz’s launch of her in-house brand of Amaranth wafers, dubbed Obleas .

“Instead of relying solely on suppliers, we created our own product line offering more variety, control and flavors,” she explained. “Our Amaranth wafers are a grab-and-go product, loaded with nutrients and antioxidants – a perfect gluten and sugar-free snack that’s also low in calories. ”

Hunt said she’s proud her agency is highlighting Diaz. “Her story is so inspiring…we take supermarkets for granted and not everyone thinks of starting their own niche store as they stroll down the aisles,” added Hunt. “Now, she’s taking her business one step further by developing wafers and soon a protein bar.”

Diaz remains amazed at the opportunities in America. “When you dream something, you really can do it.”
