SBA Mitigation Loan Communication Strategies Evaluation

Eligible SBA Disaster Assistance Loan recipients can request additional funding to protect their homes or businesses against future disasters. The SBA aims to increase uptake of this “mitigation increase option” among eligible borrowers. This evaluation experimentally tested whether emails to eligible borrowers had a significant impact on the uptake of the mitigation increase option. The study found that a higher proportion of borrowers who received emails took up the mitigation loan increase option, compared to those who did not receive emails. The study also provides recommendations for future communication strategies.
