Event description

Understanding your customers and community is essential for business success. In this interactive online workshop, the U.S. Census Bureau and the SBA will demonstrate how small business owners can use the Census Business Builder platform to gain powerful insights about their markets.

Census Business Builder is the Census Bureau’s first cloud-based data tool designed specifically to help entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and community leaders analyze their local market. Participants will learn how to create custom maps and reports that illustrate the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of potential customers and employees within a state, county, city, zip code, or custom neighborhood.

During this session, participants will learn how to:

• Identify demographic and economic characteristics of customers in their target market
• Analyze local workforce characteristics to support hiring and expansion decisions
• Review industry data including employment levels, revenues, wages, and growth rates
• Understand consumer spending patterns across more than 30 spending categories
• Create customized geographic market reports for neighborhoods, cities, or multiple counties

Whether you are launching a new business, expanding into a new market, or refining your marketing strategy, this workshop will show you how to leverage free, reliable Census data to make more informed decisions and better understand your customers.
