One Earth Body Care, of Plymouth is the U.S. Small Business Administration’s New Hampshire 2026 Micro-Enterprise Business of the Year. This honor recognizes the company’s outstanding commitment to sustainable practices, innovation in eco-friendly body care products, and steady business growth rooted in environmental responsibility.
When Anne Altor and Ed LaPlante founded One Earth Body Care in 2017 they set out to prove that effective personal care products could be made responsibly without wasteful packaging, harmful additives, or compromise on environmental ethics. Drawing on Anne’s background as an environmental scientist and Ed’s experience managing small businesses, they built the company around one guiding principle: every product decision must reflect respect for the planet and its people.
Anne and Ed, avid rock climbers who were working in different industries, developed a healing balm to repair skin damaged from climbing. The product quickly became a hit, leading them to recognize a broader need in the marketplace for simple earth friendly alternatives to conventional body care products. Surrounded by products filled with unnecessary additives and disposable plastics, they began formulating their own line of bar shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, and soaps each crafted with natural ingredients and packaged sustainably. The results quickly spoke for themselves - effective, environmentally responsible products customers could trust.
Through ongoing work with New Hampshire Small Business Development Center (NHSBDC) business advisor and nominator Janie Wang, Anne and Ed strengthened their business operations and strategic planning while staying true to the core mission. Today, One Earth Body Care has built a loyal customer base across the country, by expanding their e-commerce presence. Their success illustrates how deeply held values, combined with expert guidance and determination, can transform an idea into a thriving enterprise that makes a real difference.
