Paul Mayer built his career on service — first to his country, then to the people who needed him most. As the president and owner of a veteran-owned small business – The Schegg Group (TSG), he carries that same sense of duty into every client engagement, every coaching session, and every hard conversation that others would rather avoid.

Since 2016, Paul has led The Schegg Group (TSG) guiding companies through workforce change and standing beside the individuals caught in the crossfire. From hiring and manager development to union relations and organizational restructuring, TSG handles the full spectrum of working life with experience, strategy, and genuine human care. They take pride in supporting individuals through a time of bewilderment such as job and/or wage loss.

Paul utilized SBA Resources such as business advising through the CT Small Business Development Center and SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to sustain his own workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic. This in turn kept TSG viable to its clients who had lost their jobs at an unprecedented rate -keeping to TSG’s unwavering principle: no one gets turned away.

Competing against global firms with far greater resources, TSG wins not by outspending them, but by outcaring them. In 2026, TSG was awarded the SBA Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year by celebrating the firm’s dedication, leadership and impact in serving organizations and individuals in the human resources space.
