WASHINGTON – Maria Contreras-Sweet, Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet, will be in Flint, Michigan tomorrow, Friday, February 26, to deliver a major announcement regarding additional SBA disaster assistance for businesses and individuals affected by the ongoing water crisis there.
Contreras-Sweet will be joined by Flint Mayor Karen Weaver and the Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Commerce, Jay Williams, for a tour of small businesses in Flint. At the conclusion of the tour, Contreras-Sweet will hold a press conference to announce SBA’s economic recovery package for Flint. Following that announcement, the Administrator will be joined by Senator Debbie Stabenow and host a lunch with stakeholders and community leaders at Churchill’s Food and Spirits.
Earlier this month, the SBA announced that economic injury disaster loans were available for the Flint community. An SBA disaster declaration typically enables small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations to apply for low-interest SBA loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the ongoing water crisis.
