ATLANTA – On April 4, 2023, Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the voice in President Biden’s Cabinet for America’s 33 million small businesses joined U.S. Representative Lucy McBath (GA), in Atlanta to highlight the success of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and the record-breaking entrepreneurial growth in the past two years.
“President Biden’s Investing in America agenda has led to the strongest and fastest economic recovery in the world: adding 12.4 million jobs since President Biden took office and breaking records with 10.5 new small business applications filed in 2021 and 2022 - including over 600,000 in Georgia,” said Administrator Guzman. “I look forward to working with Congresswoman Lucy McBath and supporting her unwavering commitment to her community with the SBA resources needed to strengthen the innovation and growth of small businesses in Georgia.”
As part of her visit, the Administrator and Congresswoman McBath hosted a roundtable with members of local chambers of commerce, where they discussed the challenges affecting small business owners in the Atlanta area. They also addressed various ways SBA can assist, provide resources and adapt to meet the needs of small business owners.
“Small business is the backbone of our local economy, and I recognize the challenges that Main Street USA has faced and overcome these last three years,” said Rep. McBath. “That is why I am so grateful to Administrator Guzman for coming to speak with our small business leaders and share the priorities she is championing in the Biden-Harris Administration. Georgia’s Seventh District has so much to be proud of, and I am thrilled that another member of President Biden’s Cabinet gets to see first-hand the tremendous success of this thriving and growing community.”
After the lunch, Administrator Guzman joined Congresswoman McBath to visit two local businesses in the Metro Atlanta area. Early in the afternoon, they visited 45 South Café, a Black-owned coffee and wine bar.
Together, they also visited The Local Peach, a community-driven market that provides locally-grown produce. Together, the owners work to build a sense of community and combat food insecurity in the area.
