Eric Ness is serving as the acting regional administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Region V. In this role, he oversees the delivery of the agency’s financial assistance, technical assistance and government contracting activities throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
He also serves tangentially as the director for the SBA’s Wisconsin District Office, a position he has held since December 2001, delivering SBA programs and services throughout the Badger State.
Ness began his SBA career in 1990 as a commercial loan officer, working on loan processing and liquidation. He has served as finance chief and assistant district director for economic development. In spring 2014 he also served as acting regional administrator for several months while the regional administrator served as the SBA administrator.
Before joining the SBA, Ness worked in northwestern Wisconsin, first for Impact Seven as a business analyst and then as general manager of Western Wisconsin Development Corporation. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
